No need for general meningitis vaccine, says health minister

What happened: Vaccines are being given to 5,000 students at the University of Kent due to a meningitis outbreak. Health minister Wes Streeting advised that the wider public does not need to buy the vaccine.

Why it matters:

  • Targeted vaccination helps control the outbreak among students.
  • General public can avoid unnecessary vaccination and costs.

MNN Take: Vaccination efforts are focused on those at immediate risk, such as students in affected areas, to efficiently manage the outbreak without causing public alarm.
